In collaboration with Tartu Oskar Luts City Library, the Estonian Refugee Council invites everyone to visit the portrait exhibition Voices from Crises: Stories of Displaced People, displayed on Vabaduse boulevard in Tartu from 3rd April. The exhibition showcases the stories of refugees living in Estonia.

The exhibition focuses on the experiences of people who were forced to leave their home countries due to crises and have found new beginnings in Estonia. The exhibition can be viewed in Vabaduse Park near the Oskar Luts monument.

The display features photographs by Keiu Virro of individuals with refugee backgrounds who have fled their homelands due to war, armed conflict, or persecution. It is essential to note that their departure was not a voluntary choice but rather a decision between a life worth living and an unlivable existence—often a matter of life and death.

The exhibition sheds light on the causes of forced migration and shares the personal stories of those who have reached Estonia. It presents accounts of people who were forced to leave their homes in eight different regions: Afghanistan, the Gaza Strip, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.

Voices from Crises: Stories of Displaced People will remain on display on Vabaduse boulevard until the end of April.

Read about the exhibition’s opening last April in Telliskivi Creative City, Tallinn, on the Estonian Refugee Council’s website. You can also find news about how the exhibition later travelled from the capital to Pärnu.
